Subject: Iku Kasahara (Library Wars)

My very first attempt at all digital painting. I have to admit it was harder than it appeared, and I'm not very good at it, yet.

But, I did learn a lot about layering and one day I will splurge and buy Photoshop. This was done with Manga Studio Debut, which, I admit is really a program more geared towards black and white comics. Don't get me wrong, all my doujinshi are done with Manga Studio and I love it. But its colors are limited and I want to work with a program that specializes in color.

I'm still neutral about whether I prefer traditional over digital as a process altogether. Digital's highlights are the ease of erasing and re-layering for greater detail. (I really enjoyed drawing lace! I can't do that normally unless with a very fine brush) The drawbacks are really, the layering (!!) and the inability to see the texture and form of a painting as a whole -- like you would on paper or canvas. Now and then, I like getting paint under my fingernails.

This is a "photo" of Iku, inspired by Chapter 4 of my fanfic, "In Her Element." The fanfic is available at: [link]

Thank you for being so kind to my art! I'm tempted to try something else, but have so little time...going back to work soon from my little 3 mo. sabbatical, so I don't want to start anything complicated. :-( I DO want to buy photoshop but it's so expensive! lol
